Somerset Libraries Consultation 2018 - Consultation Closing Date 22 April 2018

News Image

From Monday 29 January, members of the public, businesses and organisations are asked to read the proposals online  and complete a questionnaire, basing their responses on the library they visit most often and putting forward possible alternative proposals for consideration.

Library services will continue across Somerset whatever the response from this consultation and no decisions will be made until after the consultation concludes on 22 April and all results are fully analysed. We expect to make a final decision in June/July.

The full decision to go to consultation paper can be viewed here:  Appendix 1 provides a summary of the proposals and Appendix 4 gives a schedule of events across the county being held as part of the forthcoming consultation.

Under the proposals, 15 of our 34 libraries would be seeking community involvement to remain open. Where this is not possible, services would instead be provided either through outreach in community venues or through additional mobile library stops.  For a further seven libraries, the County Council is consulting on two different options – either to seek community involvement or to keep existing library services as they currently are.

Winter Service in Somerset 2017/18

Please find attached a copy of the leaflet 'Your Guide to Winter Service in Somerset 2017/2018'.

This leaflet outlines the county policy on salting routes, describes what we can and cannot do and what the public can do to assist, including advice on the clearance of snow from pavements.  It also contains a map showing the Pre-Salting Network in Somerset and the criteria that were used to develop this network.  This also indicates that the majority of roads will not receive treatment and that we all, as road users, have responsibility for our own safety.

This web site is designed to tell of the many attractions awaiting visitors, as well as serving as a centre of information for all who live in the  parishes and round about..

The Civil Parishes of North Cadbury and Yarlington share one Parish Council and comprise the four villages of Galhampton, North Cadbury, Yarlington and Woolston.  They are just to the South and West of the delightful little town of Castle Cary and just North of the A303 trunk route from London to the South West.  Mostly farmland and orchards, the parishes are proud to be the home of two of the very best cheese makers in Somerset.  Our orchards contribute many gallons of the cider for which Somerset is renowned world wide.  Farms in the parishes grow thousands of tons of potatoes amongst a wide range of agricultural crops.  At the other end of the scale we are pleased to host a company servicing many types of helicopter.
